Lha Celebrated World Earth Day
On 22nd April 2015, Lha in collaboration with CUDP and Tibetan Welfare Settlement Office of Dharamshala organized mass cleanup around the McLeod Ganj town in celebration of World Earth Day.
Earth Day is celebrated every year on the 22nd of April. In 1970, a senator from Wisconsin, USA, Gaylord Nelson first conceived of this day. The senator was worried about the rate of industrialization and the careless attitude of everyone towards our environment.
It was envisaged to promote the idea of ecology, to encourage respect for life on Earth, and highlight growing concerns about different kinds of pollution. Over 20 million Americans participated in events to mark the first Earth Day and it turned out to be so contagious that today, over a billion people from all over the globe celebrate Earth Day.
Lha would like to appreciate the students, staff and volunteers who eagerly cleaned the temple area with determination and hard work.
As per the decision made from Annual Meeting of Lha, we will be organizing these kinds of Mass Cleanups every month to maintain the cleanliness of McLeod Ganj due to an influx of more domestic and international tourists.
We will be looking forward to more volunteers for upcoming mass clean up which will be held in May. Any interested can drop in our office. We believe that cleaning is the most effective way to maintain our environment cleaner and greener.
